Danica

DanicaDanica Sue Patrick is an American former professional racer. She is the most successful American female open-wheel racing driver. Her victory in Indy Japan 300 in 2008 was her first major win. She dropped out of high school with her parents' permission in 1998, and moved to the United Kingdom to further her career. Patrick competed in Formula Vauxhall and Formula Ford before returning to the United States in 2001 due to a lack of funding. She took part in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races in 2002 for Rahal Letterman Racing. Patrick raced in the Toyota Atlantic Series the following two years. Her best finish was third in the championship standings for the 2004 season. She became the first woman in the race to secure an overall position. She was awarded the 2005 IndyCar Series Rookie of Year. She continued to improve through Rahal Letterman Racing (2006) as well as Andretti Green Racing (2007). Patrick was sixth overall in the drivers standings in 2008 following her Japan win. She improved on this to place fifth next season, which resulted in her finishing a record-breaking third in the Indianapolis 500, the best performance of any female at the race. Patrick's overall performances slowed during 2010, but she still had two second-place finishes on oval tracks before stepping away from IndyCar following the 2011 season in order to focus on stock car racing full-time.
